The Waiting Game
We are still in the hospital, but J is at least resting more confortably. The stomach cramps have lessened, and J got his "friend" back in form of a push button morphine IV! Hah! J's surgeon has put him on complete gut rest again, no foods or liquids, to relieve the pressure on his intestine. In doing this, J's surgeon is hoping the blockage will fix itself on its own. He is giving J's body a few days to see how it will respond, but if not then surgery may be inevitable. J's surgeon did mention a concern with J's bloodwork. He said that J's Band Form, white blood cell count, was elevated. Normally it is <5, yesterday it was elevated 8% and today it showed it is climbing at 20% above normal. J's surgeon said the elevated Band Form could mean a "focally cut off blood supply." This could be that it could result in part of his intestine dying due to it being restricted, so surgery may be the only means to fix this if J's body doesnt' respond to the gut rest in these next few days. Please pray for us...it is mentally and emotionally difficult being back in the hospital. The ER and staff has been more than incredible, but just having one more thing to endure has been frustrating for us. One thing we are so incredible thankful for is that we are home, and not that J is not in a hospital bed in Texas. I am just thankful that we are under the care of his surgeon who knows exactly what is going on with J and knows his history well. So, we are just waiting, waiting, waiting...It kinda reminds me of Titanic, when the people are sitting on the dark ocean waiting in their small boats. They are forced to just wait to be saved. They are thankful that they are the fortunate ones who got in a boat, but having just come from disaster it must have been hard to wait to be rescued one more time before coming onto land.
