We Are Going Home!

Friday officially marked 40 days and 40 nights of us being here in Texas! And just like Noah, we brought our kids and parents two-by-two. We have felt the stormy strength of the waves and wind, and the Tennant Institute has been our Ark. As safe and healing as it has been, we have been getting sick and a bit stir crazy locked up in this foreign place. We can't wait to be back in Hawaii, surrounded by mountains, and sitting on a beach looking out into the ocean's endless horizon.

We did not go into treatment on Friday. J was up the entire night before with stomach cramps throwing up,and finally fell asleep at 8:30am. It was brutal, but after sleeping through the morning, he felt better. Over the weekend, we decided to continue on with treatment for the beginning of this week and see where J is at with the MEADS. Today, we met with Dr. T and he said J is still on the downward trend (which is a good thing) and he was feeling confident to send us home. Dr. T said that J will continue on with with vitamin C orally at home along with the other treatments. Dr. T also added a new treatment of COQ-10 and coconut oil. The sucess rate for cancer patients is astounding. Another cancer patient at the clinic began taking it a few days ago, and her voltage sky rocketed. So, Dr. T says to keep the pressure on the cancer for the next six months with all the therapies and then see where J is at. We are still awaiting the news of J's last cancer screening test, and hoping for the best. Also, Dr. T assured us that J's cholesterol number is okay. J's liver is getting cleaned up–-we will be able to know his baseline in a few months and monitor from there.

Another exciting thing that happened recently is about J's pain. For the past six months I have been searching the internet for anything to help relieve J of his pain. I finally read a webite talking about a natural supplement DLPA (D-L-phenylalanine). It worked for chonic pain in about 85% of people who tried it, is not habit forming, and has no known side effects. DLPA works by inhibiting the enzyme that breaks down endorphines, the brain's own morphine-like chemical that relieves pain. J has been unsuccessful this whole time to lessen his dosages on his pain meds. That could be because of the level of pain he is still in and/or the side effects of the drugs on his body. But, after starting the DLPA a week or so ago, J has begun to lessen the dosages on his pain meds! We are thrilled to have stumbled across this blessing.

So, we are on our way home! If this had been a few weeks ago, we would have liked to stick around a bit on the mainland and have some down time as a family...but after 6 1/2 weeks...we miss home! We are packing our bags and moving out as fast as we possibly can. Texas has been so good to us, but we can't wait to just heal and decompress in the comforts of our own home. We know the trip back will be taxing, but it'll be worth it. J and I talked about that joyous moment when you are flying in to Honolulu International Airport...coming in for a landing, seeing the water line trace up to the Honolulu city lights...getting out of the terminal and taking that first breath of fresh air...taking it in and knowing, you are HOME.

Really great that the treatments have been working well and that you are heading back home.

So awesome that your research has hopefully led to the reduction of Jim's pain meds.

Sounds like the the visit to Dallas- Fort Worth was a very productive time for everyone there, from ukele playing, watching the Mavericks win a game, and the very positive treatment for Jim and the kids.

Welcome back home!
Dave
